Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need travel insurance or any vaccinations?
We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers medical care and trip cancellation. Health requirements depend on your nationality, where you're traveling from and your itinerary, so we recommend consulting your doctor or a travel clinic before you go.
What happens in case of an emergency?
We have a 24/7 emergency protocol, medical assistance, and a worldwide known travel insurance assistance, so we minimize every potential risk to its lowest during your visit.
What should I know about money, tipping and connectivity?
Colombia uses the Colombian peso (COP). Cards are widely accepted at hotels and restaurants; carry some cash for small purchases. Many restaurants add a voluntary 10% service charge to the bill. Hotels have Wi-Fi, and we can recommend an eSIM for mobile data. Electrical outlets are the same as in the US (110V, Type A/B).
Who is behind Embora Travel?
Embora Travel is a family-owned / founder-led company based in Colombia, registered in the National Tourism Registry (RNT 254384 / 2026). You'll speak with one of our founders from your first call to the day you fly home.
Safety
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
If you cancel 30 or more days before your arrival date, you receive an 80% refund. If you cancel between 15 and 29 days before arrival, you receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 15 days before arrival are not refundable. We're happy to offer date changes, subject to availability. Our full Terms & Conditions apply, and we strongly recommend travel insurance that covers trip cancellation.
What exactly is included, and what isn't?
Included: boutique stays, private transportation and airport transfers, local expert guides, the experiences listed in your itinerary, daily breakfast and curated meals, domestic flights between destinations, a 24/7 Embora host and, for San Andrés, the island tourist card.
Not included: international flights (so you can fly with your preferred airline or miles), other meals and drinks, tips, travel insurance and personal expenses.
Booking & payment
Can I customize the itinerary or add days?
Absolutely. Every journey is a starting point. You can add nights, combine destinations or change the pace. We'll adjust the itinerary and the price accordingly.
When is the best time to visit?
Colombia is a year-round destination. The Caribbean coast and the islands are driest from December to April. The Coffee Region and the cities are pleasant most of the year, with drier months in December–March and July–August. We'll recommend the best timing for the journey you choose.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for December–January, Easter week and June–August. If your dates are closer, ask us and we'll check availability.
Do I need a visa?
Many travelers (including from the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, Brazil and Australia) can visit Colombia for tourism without a visa. Rules depend on your nationality and on where you travel from, so we'll confirm the requirements for you before you book. Please also check the latest official guidance for your passport.
Planning your trip
Special requests
Can I travel solo?
Yes. You'll always have your host and private guides with you.
Can you adapt the trip to dietary needs, mobility or special requests?
Yes. Tell us about food restrictions, mobility needs or special occasions (honeymoons, birthdays, anniversaries) in your first message and we'll design around them.
Practical details
Is it safe to travel to Colombia?
Absolutely! All our destinations are carefully selected for their safety, comfort, and hospitality. We work with verified local partners, offer private transportation, and experienced guides.
Do I need a tourist card to enter San Andrés?
Yes. All visitors to San Andrés and Providencia must pay a mandatory tourist card (about COP 153,000 per person in 2026, roughly USD 35–40). It's included in your Embora journey and we arrange it for you. We'll just need your full name and passport details before your trip.
Will my guides speak English?
Yes. Your host and guides speak English, and we can arrange guides in other languages on request.
How much does a journey cost?
Our journeys start at $2,500 USD per person (double occupancy) and vary by destination: Coffee Region from $2,500, Bogotá & Medellín from $2,700, Cartagena & the Islands from $2,500, and San Andrés & Providencia from $3,000. Final pricing depends on your dates, hotel category, group size and any upgrades. A single supplement applies for solo travelers.
